About RMBC Residential Care

Supporting Rotherham's children and young people everyday.

Mission

Children in residential care should be loved, happy, healthy, safe from harm and able to develop, thrive and fulfil their potential.

Residential child care should foster positive relationships, encouraging strong bonds between children and staff in the home on the basis of jointly undertaken activities, shared daily life, domestic and non-domestic routines and established boundaries of acceptable behaviour.

Values

Children have their own views, wishes and feelings, and homes must promote each child’s right to have a say.

Children’s views, wishes and feelings will be sought in all aspects of their planning and day to day care.

Residential child care should be attentive to children’s need, supporting emotional, mental and physical health needs, including repairing earlier damage to self-esteem and encouraging friendships.

Sue's Story

"I would like to share with you my journey within a residential provision for looked after children. I have numerous years of experience working with children, I liked Rotherham's therapeutic model approach. Children are always at the centre of everything I do. I wanted to broaden my experiences, so I began my journey as a casual practitioner. I soon realised this was a role for me and applied for a permanent position. I have been fortunate to receive some outstanding training, which has helped me to develop and grow as a practitioner, this has supported my career progression. We have an amazing therapeutic team who support the young people and the team around them. I feel honoured to be a part of our young people's journey, in being able to help them fulfil their full potential."
